Cutting Board and Charcuterie Board Care

  • First and foremost, never leave your cutting board in any puddle of water, large or small.

  • Hand wash the board with soap and water, drying excess water off afterwards, and leave to air dry on a wire rack. Never put a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher.

  • Store your cutting board away from heat sources like the stove or toaster ovens as excessive heat can warp and dry out your board.

  • Oiling the board regularly will help extend your cutting board’s life. I recommend oiling your board after each use for the first week of use, then once a month, or whenever the board looks dry, after that. Apply oil to the top, bottom, and sides of the board.

    • There are many cutting board oils available. I use two food grade mineral oils for the initial conditioning of your board: Howard Butcher Block & Cutting Board Oil, as well as Howard Butcher Block Conditioner. These products, or similar products, can generally be found at your local hardware or kitchen store.

    • Walnut Oil* is a personal favorite of mine; I love the scent and the way it brings out the natural colors of the wood. You can find walnut oil at your local grocery store, or for a walnut oil more specific to woodworking, I recommend Mahoney's Walnut Oil.

  • If you have any questions at all, please contact me at reveristdesign@gmail.com

Happy Chopping!

*Do not use Walnut Oil if you have a nut allergy as it could trigger a reaction.
